Zelenskyy unsure if talks are near a result or heading in the opposite direction

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he does not know whether peace talks are at a final stage or if further work with multiple countries is still needed to secure reliable security guarantees.

Quote: "The final stage is the most difficult, and at the moment we don't know whether we're really close to a result or, on the contrary, not at all. It's hard to say.
We're relying on security guarantees from the United States, and a document has already been prepared in this regard. We're also relying on security guarantees from Europe. Almost everything is ready there too, but it has not yet been approved by parliaments or the US Congress.
As I've said before, we don't really know if this is the final stage and just a short way to go, or if we'll still be working with many countries to secure reliable security guarantees."
Details: Zelenskyy also said that a package of measures for Ukraine's recovery is important.
"Potential investors need to know that Ukraine will have security guarantees and that the war won't start again. They want to come and invest, and I think that's a realistic view. So we still have work to do on this," Zelenskyy noted.
He also said there is a 20-point plan to end the war.
"There are these very painful issues you mentioned, regarding territorial integrity. I want to stress that, in my view, only a head of state can resolve these issues," he said.
Background:
- Zelenskyy insists on a format involving a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine, the United States and Russia.
- On 30 January, Trump once again said he sees a chance for successful negotiations to end the Russo-Ukrainian war.
- A new round of talks on a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine is expected to begin on 1 February. US State Secretary Marco Rubio has said that US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner will not be attending, but there "might be" a US presence.
