Details: The ministry has noted that bringing in electricity from the European Union has helped to keep the energy system stable amid Russian attacks and freezing temperatures, reduce deficit and cut volumes of forced outages. Such support has been ensured thanks to expanded transmission capacity: in January, import capacity limit from EU was set at 2,450 MW, the ministry said.

Background:

  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to adopt all necessary decisions to simplify and increase electricity imports by state-owned and private companies.
  • It became known on 27 January that Ukraine is importing electricity at maximum available capacity.
  • State-owned companies, primarily Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) and Naftogaz, must urgently ensure purchase of imported electricity during the autumn-winter period of 2025-2026.
