Quote: "Our priorities will be on three conflicts which are among the most serious threats to international peace and security across three continents. They are Ukraine, Sudan and Gaza."

Details: Kariuki emphasised that the UK supports Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump "in their pursuit of a just peace for Ukraine".

Quote: "We're with the US on that. We're with our European partners on that. And we're with Ukraine on that. And I think, as I said, it's important that everybody, whatever their relationship with Russia, puts pressure on Russia to join the effort for peace."

"Ukraine has shown it's the party of peace, while Russia continues to block progress and terrorise Ukraine and its people."

Details: Kariuki also condemned Russia's recent attacks on energy infrastructure in Kyiv and across Ukraine, noting that these strikes are "plunging families into freezing conditions and starving them of basic necessities in the depths of winter. As Putin stalls and delays on serious peace talks, we will not stand idly by."

The UK, he said, "is committed to accelerating our support for Ukraine" and maintaining maximum economic pressure on Russia to bring it to the negotiating table.

He stressed that the UK "will continue to give Ukraine our ironclad support both in the search for peace and to ensure that Russia is never able to invade again."

In this context, he announced plans for a UN Security Council session on Ukraine on 24 February, the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Quote: "As we enter the fifth year of this devastating war, we will reiterate our commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the importance of achieving a just and lasting peace."

Details: The meeting will be chaired by Stephen Doughty, Minister of State of the United Kingdom for Europe and North America.

Kariuki also highlighted that the UK continues to provide Ukraine with the "economic, financial, and military support needed to defend itself".

Answering questions about peace talks, he said: "There needs to be a just peace which is OK for the Ukrainians and there need to be serious security guarantees behind that so that Russia can no longer attack Ukraine or its other neighbours."

When asked if the Security Council would review the implementation of its single resolution on Russia's war passed a year ago, Kariuki replied no, adding that negotiations are ongoing, so it is not appropriate to consider resolutions at this time.
