The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to increase the number of heating points in the capital from 118 to 197.

Quote: "At present, 118 State Emergency Service heating tents are operating at 84 locations in Kyiv. Given the situation, we are preparing to deploy an additional 79 points. In particular, today we plan to set up eight tent camps in the Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts of the capital. We are installing heat guns at the main heating support points."

Details: According to the minister, at this very moment rescue workers are also deploying additional support points for the population in Kharkiv and sending special equipment and specialists there from other regions.

Klymenko said that the heating situation is currently particularly difficult in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro. Consolidated response teams, including industrial climbers and engineering units, have been involved in dealing with the aftermath of the attack.

A State Emergency Service energy unit in the capital is working to connect social and critical infrastructure facilities to high-capacity generators.

The interior minister added that the nationwide 112 emergency hotline continues to receive reports about disruptions to heating, electricity and water supplies. So far, operators have processed around 70,000 such requests. Efforts to deal with the aftermath of the strikes and support the population are ongoing around the clock.

Background:

  • On the night of 2-3 February, Russia carried out the largest strike on Ukraine's energy sector since the start of the year. Electricity generation and distribution facilities were targeted.
  • Combined heat and power plants and thermal power plants operating in heating mode in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro were hit. An energy facility in Odesa Oblast was also attacked with missiles and drones. Thousands of people were left without electricity.
  • The energy system is currently operating under severe restrictions.
