Ukraine denies any role in attack on Russian general – Reuters

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has told Reuters that Kyiv was not involved in the assassination attempt on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, First Deputy Head of Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU).

Details: Reuters said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had accused Ukraine of an assassination attempt on General Alekseev, claiming the attack was intended to disrupt peace talks.

In response, Sybiha told Reuters that Ukraine has no involvement in the incident.

- An unknown assailant carried out an attempted assassination of Alexeyev in Moscow on 6 February.
- Denys Prokopenko, alias Redis, commander of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine's Azov Brigade, later reported that Alekseev had made promises to the defenders of Azovstal regarding detention guarantees in 2022.
