Over half of Germans support stronger aid to Ukraine – poll

Around 52% of German citizens support stronger aid to Ukraine as the country is defending itself against Russia's aggression.
Source: Insa Institute poll for German tabloid Bild, as reported by European Pravda with reference to Deutsche Welle, a German international broadcaster and media outlet
Details: About 52% of respondents said the West should provide more support to Ukraine if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire and peace talks.
The poll showed that 28% of Germans believe the aid should cover both military and financial components, while 12% think assistance should be provided in the form of either money or weapons.
Meanwhile, 35% believe Germany should stop supporting Ukraine, and 13% did not respond.
The poll also showed that Germans fear a larger-scale war: 54% of the respondents are concerned that Russia could attack a NATO member country, such as Poland or Lithuania. However, this is around eight points lower than in a poll conducted last September.
Background:
- Most Poles are pessimistic about the outcome of Russia's war against Ukraine and believe Ukraine will be forced to cede territory.
- Another poll indicated that the majority of Poles do not expect the war in Ukraine to end in 2026.
