Over 500 high-capacity generators installed at critical infrastructure sites in Kyiv Oblast

Kyiv Oblast has received 509 generators from international partners over the past few weeks, with a combined capacity of more than 5.3 MW.

Details: Kalashnyk said the equipment had been provided by international partners, including Poland, Lithuania, Czechia, UNHCR, the Ukrainian Red Cross and its Kyiv Oblast branch, as well as humanitarian organisations and charitable foundations.
Quote: "The generators have been installed at critical infrastructure sites: boiler houses, water utilities, hospitals, schools, kindergartens and invincibility centres. This means heat, water and basic services for people even during power cuts." [Invincibility centres are heated premises stocked with food and power banks to assist residents facing hardships due to power cuts – ed.]
"In effect, the oblast now operates an entire generator network, with 4,636 units and a total capacity of over 100 MW."
Details: Kalashnyk also noted that hromadas in Kyiv Oblast are moving towards more systematic solutions and strengthening their own energy independence. The oblast already operates 56 cogeneration units as well as a gas turbine with a total capacity of 145 MW. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]
Quote: "This allows hromadas to be less dependent on the central power grid and to provide people with electricity and heat in a stable way.
In addition, we are installing 36 mobile boiler units with a total capacity of 17.5 MW. Solar generation is also developing rapidly: the oblast now has 114 power plants with a combined capacity of 280.6 MW.
Today, distributed generation already covers around a quarter of the Kyiv Oblast's needs."
Background: Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal previously warned that on 10 and 11 February the power system would face challenging outage schedules due to low temperatures.
