Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, is set to hold talks with a US delegation in Geneva "soon".
Source: Kremlin-aligned Russian news agency RIA Novosti, as reported by European Pravda
Details: A source said that Dmitriev, who heads the Russian delegation in the Russia-US working group on economic issues, will not join the trilateral talks with Ukraine on 17-18 February.
It is not known whether his meeting with the US delegation will take place before or after the Geneva round of talks.
Background:
- Earlier on Friday, the Kremlin stated that the Russian delegation at the talks will be led by Putin's aide Vladimir Medinsky. It is worth noting that Medinsky was not a member of the Russian negotiating team at the trilateral talks that resumed earlier this year in the UAE.
- The next round of Ukraine-US-Russia talks in Geneva on 17-18 February was announced by the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umierov.
- Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the new round of talks will include discussions of territorial issues.
- Zelenskyy also said earlier that the United States has proposed ending Russia's war against Ukraine by the summer, as they will have a different priority later – the US congressional elections.
