US to urge Hungary and Slovakia to abandon Russian gas, says Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said Washington will speak with Hungary and Slovakia in an effort to persuade them to stop purchasing Russian energy.

Details: Asked by journalists whether the US intends to urge Hungary and Slovakia to stop buying Russian energy resources, Rubio said there will be relevant discussions.

Quote from Rubio: "Well, we'll have those conversations with them. We'll talk to them about what needs to happen."

Details: Rubio added that a US delegation is also planning to visit both Hungary and Slovakia.

Background: Rubio said he believes he will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Munich Security Conference, which runs from 13 to 15 February.
