Ukrainian anti-corruption prosecutors seek arrest or US$9.83m bail for former energy minister, court sets hearing

Ukraine's Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) plans to petition the court to place Herman Halushchenko, former Ukrainian energy minister, in pre-trial custody, with the option of release on UAH 425 million (about US$9.82 million) bail.

Quote from Postoliuk: "The prosecutor is seeking that the defendant in the Midas case be remanded in custody or pay bail of UAH 425 million."
Details: Asked about the date of the court hearing, Postoliuk said it is scheduled for 12:30 on 17 February.
Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court confirmed later that it had scheduled the hearing.
Previously: On 16 February, the High Anti-Corruption Court reviewed a complaint filed by the defence of Herman Halushchenko over his alleged unlawful detention. The court partially upheld the complaint but ordered that Halushchenko remain in custody pending a decision on a pre-trial restriction.

Background:
- Ukrainska Pravda learnt from its sources that on the night of 14-15 February, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and SAPO detained Halushchenko while he was attempting to cross the border.
- Halushchenko has been served with a notice of suspicion in the Midas case. He is suspected of large-scale money laundering and was detained while attempting to leave the country.
