Zelenskyy: Russia agrees to one-day ceasefire for elections, but 60 days needed

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Russia has agreed only to a one-day ceasefire to allow elections to take place, rather than the 60 days that are needed.

Details: Zelenskyy noted that no final decisions have been made, but the possibility of holding new presidential elections together with a referendum is being discussed.
He added that at present Russia has agreed only to a one-day ceasefire so that Ukraine could organise and conduct elections, rather than the 60 days which, in his view, are required.
Zelenskyy described Russia's position as absurd and possibly a sign that Moscow is not ready for genuine peace.
Zelenskyy told Axios in September that he would step away from politics after the end of the war.
However, he suggested in this interview that any elections might have to be held during an unstable ceasefire and that in such a case he could run as a candidate.
"It will depend on the people. We will see what they want," the president added.
Background: Zelenskyy said in an interview with Politico on 15 February that 90% of Ukrainians do not support holding elections during the war.
