Political negotiations in Geneva on Tuesday 17 February have reached a stalemate because of the positions put forward by Russia's new chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky.

Background:
- On 17 February, delegations from Ukraine, the US and Russia in Geneva concluded the first day of talks on both political and military areas. The groups will continue their work on the morning of 18 February, with statements from the sides expected afterwards.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainians will not accept a peace deal that involves Ukraine's unilateral withdrawal from Donbas and its handover to Russia.
- Zelenskyy also said he had instructed his negotiating team to organise a future leaders' meeting involving Ukraine, the US and Russia in Geneva.
