Ukraine and Russia hold separate meeting after trilateral talks

Ukraine and Russia have held a separate meeting after the main round of negotiations in Geneva.

Details: The meeting reportedly included the heads of the two delegations, Ukraine's representative Rustem Umierov and Russia's representative Vladimir Medinsky, as well as Davyd Arakhamiia, leader of Ukraine's Servant of the People party.

A Suspilne correspondent reported encountering Medinsky near the hotel as he was leaving the meeting.

In a comment to Russian media, he confirmed that he met with the Ukrainian delegation. The talks lasted about an hour and a half, but the topics discussed remain unknown.

Background:

  • On the morning of 18 February, the second day of Ukraine-US-Russia talks on the settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine began in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Later, Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation, stated that the latest round of trilateral talks had concluded. He said that the negotiations lasted about two hours and were "difficult but business-like".
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during the negotiations in Geneva, the parties agreed that monitoring of compliance with a ceasefire would be carried out with the participation of the United States.
