The man suspected of killing Andrii Portnov, a pro-Russian politician and former adviser of ex-Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, holds Russian citizenship.

Details: Sources told Ukrainska Pravda that the man detained in connection with Portnov's murder is Oleksandr Azizovych Azizov, 45. He is originally from the city of Shakhtarsk in Donetsk Oblast and holds Ukrainian citizenship.

The sources added that Azizov also appears in the Russian Federation's Unified State Register of Taxpayers.
Ukrainska Pravda tried to contact the suspect's brother, Veli Azizov, but his Telegram account was deleted.
Background:
- Andrii Portnov, a former adviser of ex-Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, was shot dead outside an American school in Madrid on 21 May 2025.
- Shortly after the murder, a Spanish court ordered the investigation into Portnov's murder to be classified.
- Spain's National Police announced on 25 February that an individual was detained in Germany on suspicion of murdering Andrii Portnov.
