Details: The girls were born in Crimea. For 12 years, their mother had told them that Russia was occupying the peninsula illegally and that it belonged to Ukraine. The family was looking forward to the liberation of their hometown.
However, over time the mother realised that for the sake of her children's safety, they had to leave for Ukrainian-controlled territory. In particular, 16-year-old Anastasiia had long dreamed of studying at a Ukrainian university.
Quote from Bring Kids Back UA: "Today, new opportunities for education and personal development are opening up for the girls. The family are receiving the support they need for further reintegration and are under the guidance of a social worker and a psychologist."
Background: Seven teenagers were recently brought back to Ukraine from temporarily occupied territories after being subjected to threats, torture, beatings and religious persecution by Russians. They are safe now.
