Iran sets up interim leadership council to run the country after Khamenei's death

Iran has announced that a three-member interim Leadership Council has been established to run the country following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Details: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian made the announcement in an address broadcast on state television, Reuters reported.
Quote from Pezeshkian: "Today the interim Leadership Council has started its work."
More details: Pezeshkian was referring to a three-person council tasked with carrying out the supreme leader's role until the Assembly of Experts elects a new leader.
Al Jazeera reported that Ayatollah Alireza Arafi was appointed to the interim council on Sunday 1 March. The other members are President Masoud Pezeshkian and Supreme Court Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei.
