IAEA says no evidence Iran is building a nuclear bomb, but concerns remain

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has said that the agency has found no evidence that Iran is building a nuclear bomb. However, it cannot confirm that the country's nuclear programme is exclusively peaceful.

Quote: "I have been very clear and consistent in my reports on Iran's nuclear programme: while there has been no evidence of Iran building a nuclear bomb, its large stockpile of near-weapons grade enriched uranium and refusal to grant my inspectors full access are cause for serious concern.
For these reasons, my previous reports indicate that unless and until Iran assists the IAEA in resolving the outstanding safeguards issues, the Agency will not be in a position to provide assurance that Iran's nuclear programme is exclusively peaceful."
Background:
- On 2 March, Grossi told a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors that the agency is closely monitoring the fighting in the Middle East.
- The same day, Iranian officials said a nuclear facility in Natanz had been hit during airstrikes conducted as part of a US and Israeli military operation.
- On 28 February, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi said Iran had agreed to give up its stockpiles of enriched uranium and allow the IAEA access to its nuclear facilities to verify compliance with the terms of a potential agreement.
