Ukraine takes one-tenth of global arms imports in 2021-2025

Ukraine has been the world's biggest importer of major arms in 2021-2025.

Details: Ukraine's share of global imports was 9.7% in 2021-2025 compared with 0.1% in 2016-2020. The United States was Ukraine's biggest supplier, accounting for 41% of deliveries. Germany accounted for 14% and Poland for 9.4%.
India ranked as the world's second largest arms importer with 8.2% of global deliveries, down from 9.3% in the previous period. Saudi Arabia ranked third with 6.8% compared with 11% in 2016-2020.
The top five also included Qatar, which almost doubled its share from 3.4% to 6.4%, and Pakistan at 4.2% compared with 2.8% in the previous period. Japan also increased its share from 2.5% to 3.9%.
Poland's share rose sharply from 0.4% to 3.6%.

The United States, which ranked eighth after Poland, increased its share to 2.9% from 2.1% in the previous period.
Kuwait increased its share from 0.3% to 2.8%.
Australia also featured in the top 10 with 2.8% in 2021-2025 compared with 5.0% in the previous five-year period.
Background: SIPRI's report last year said Ukraine's military spending in 2024 rose by 2.9% compared to 2023 and reached US$64.7 billion. This was equivalent to 43% of Russia's military spending and 54% of total Ukrainian government expenditure.
