The people had to walk more than 20 km through dangerous territory to escape. The route was planned and coordinated in advance. The entire path was monitored by UAV operators using light indicators.

"Behind these kilometres are fear, exhaustion and the hope of reaching safety. And six saved lives, for which this operation was worth every step," the police noted.

After reaching the designated point, the civilians were evacuated by armoured vehicles to the settlement of Shevchenkove. Volunteers met them there.

Previously: In January, a UAV operator dropped food to a woman in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk Oblast, from a drone after she wrote a message in the snow asking for bread.
