Zelenskyy says Ukraine-US-Russia talks should focus on arranging leaders' meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that one of the key topics at the next round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States will be preparations for a meeting between the leaders.

Details: Zelenskyy reiterated that the talks are expected to take place next week in Switzerland or Türkiye.

Quote: "The main topic is to agree on continuing prisoner exchanges and also to agree on a meeting between the leaders, because going forward according to this plan, especially everything related to territorial issues… I don't think there will be any result without [a] leader-level [meeting]."

Background:

  • Earlier, Zelenskyy said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had told him in a phone call that Türkiye was ready to host the next round of trilateral talks.
  • On 9 March, Zelenskyy announced that the trilateral talks with Russia and the US have been postponed.
