Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has told his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov during a phone call that Türkiye is willing to host the next round of talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Details: The ministry said Fidan had emphasised the risks the war poses both to countries in the region and to the international order. The two ministers also discussed issues related to energy security.

During the conversation, Fidan stated that Türkiye is prepared to host the next round of talks between Russia and Ukraine.

  • On 10 March, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the United States had proposed postponing trilateral talks with Russia and the US until the following week due to the war in the Middle East.
  • Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump's representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held a meeting with Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, in Florida on 11 March.
  • Zelenskyy also said he hopes the US can help end the Russo-Ukrainian war and urged Washington to put pressure on Russia rather than on him.
