Ukraine-US-Russia talks on hold, says Ukraine's Foreign Ministry

Trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia are on hold due to the situation in the Middle East, but the teams remain in daily contact.
Source: a briefing by Heorhii Tykhyi, spokesman for Ukraine's Foreign Ministry, as cited by Interfax-Ukraine and reported by European Pravda
Details: Tykhyi pointed out that the trilateral consultations have already been postponed several times and are currently being delayed again.
Quote: "They have not been abandoned or cancelled, they have simply been postponed. There is no need to look for any hidden meaning here. The US's attention is indeed fully focused on the Middle East right now. In these circumstances, the negotiation track is on pause, although the teams are in daily contact with each other."
Details: Tykhyi added that "working-level contact is indeed taking place", but that "meetings are needed to move the process forward – ideally a meeting between the leaders".
He also stressed that Russia has not demonstrated readiness for the diplomatic process.
Background:
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last week that Ukraine is ready for a new round of talks on ending the war, but the time and venue have not yet been agreed due to the differing positions of the US and Russia.
- Zelenskyy has also insisted on the need for a meeting with US President Donald Trump, noting that some issues remain at a standstill.
- Meanwhile, the Financial Times reported that Trump is losing interest in the negotiations on a peaceful settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine, as he is focused on Iran.
