During the fighting, the Ukrainian troops removed the blockade on allied positions, established new observation posts and inflicted significant losses on the Russians – more than 40 soldiers were reportedly killed.

Background: DeepState, a Ukrainian group of military analysts, has estimated that it would take the Russians at least two years to fully seize Donetsk Oblast at the pace of their advances in the region last year, with the main battles expected around Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
