US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit France on 27 March to take part in a meeting of G7 foreign ministers, where the Russo-Ukrainian war will be among the topics on the agenda.

Details: The meeting of the G7 foreign ministers is scheduled for 27 March in Cernay-la-Ville in north-central France.

The State Department said that among the main topics of discussion will be the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East and threats to peace and stability around the world.

Background:

  • Ukraine and the US held two days of talks last week on ending the war. Ukraine was represented at the talks in Miami on 21-22 March by Rustem Umierov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the President's Office, Budanov's deputy Serhii Kyslytsia, and Davyd Arakhamiia, leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction.
  • The American team included US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and White House Senior Adviser Josh Gruenbaum. Russian negotiators did not take part in the meetings.
  • Steve Witkoff and Rustem Umierov, heads of the US and Ukrainian delegations, said that the second day of talks focused on discussing security guarantees for Ukraine and the humanitarian component of ending the war.
