Russia is currently carrying out one of its largest-scale attacks on Ukraine. More than 400 attack drones have entered Ukrainian airspace during the day, and strikes have hit multiple locations.

Details: Ihnat said that after the Air Force released its morning report on the results of the overnight combined attack, Russia continued its aerial terror.

Between 09:00 and 15:00, over 400 attack drones entered Ukrainian airspace from the south and north and across the line of contact (overnight, between 18:00 on 23 March and 09:00 on 24 March, 392 Russian drones were recorded).

Quote: "A large number of drones entered from the north, from Chernihiv and Sumy oblasts. They were virtually moving in columns. The daytime strike covered a broader geographical area than the overnight strike: Poltava, Kyiv and Vinnytsia oblasts and the western oblasts from Khmelnytskyi to Lviv. This appears to have been one of the heaviest attacks over a 24-hour period [starting from 18:00 on Monday 23 March – ed.]."

Details: Ihnat said the Air Force will release a more detailed report on the results of air defence operations at 18:00. All available assets are being deployed to repel the ongoing Russian attack, from aircraft to short-range air defence systems and mobile fire groups.

The Russians also continue to terrorise frontline oblasts with guided aerial bombs, particularly in the east and north of the country.

Background:

  • Russian drones attacked Lviv Oblast on 24 March, setting a UNESCO World Heritage Site on fire in Lviv and a house ablaze in the village of Sernyky; 13 people have been injured.
  • Another Russian drone has struck a residential building in the city of Lviv, hitting a high-rise apartment block in the Sykhivskyi district on Chervonoi Kalyny Avenue.
  • Russian forces conducted a large-scale combined strike on Ukraine's critical infrastructure using drones and air-to-surface and surface-to-surface missiles on the night of 23-24 March. Ukraine's air defences have downed 390 out of 426 aerial assets.
  • Ukraine's air defence downed all the cruise missiles launched by Russia: 18 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 5 Iskander-K cruise missiles and 2 Kh-59/69 air-to-surface missiles. Almost all of them were downed by Ukrainian pilots.
  • Another 365 Russian UAVs of various types were also downed. Hits by 6 missiles and 27 UAVs had been recorded at 22 locations and the fall of downed aerial assets (debris) at 10 locations.
