Ukrainian forces strike Russian combat icebreaker

A vessel belonging to Russian forces was struck at the Vyborg Shipbuilding Plant during a joint operation by Ukraine's defence forces in Russia's Leningrad Oblast on the night of 24-25 March.

Details: Early reports indicate that the vessel is the Purga, a Project 23550 patrol icebreaker designed for service with Russia's FSB Border Service.

The General Staff noted that such vessels perform the functions of both an icebreaker and a warship.
