US President Donald Trump said he believes the Iranian authorities want to make a deal on ending the fighting "so badly", but are "afraid to say it" because they fear for their lives.

Details: Trump said Iranian representatives are taking part in talks but are denying it because they feared being killed.
Quote: "Nobody's ever seen anything like we're doing in the Middle East with Iran, and they are negotiating, by the way, and they want to make a deal so badly, but they're afraid to say it because they figure they'll be killed by their own people. They're also afraid they'll be killed by us."
Background:
- CNN reported earlier that Washington hopes to hold a round of talks with Iran on ending the war next weekend, on 28-29 March.
- The US sent a "15-point plan" which in effect sets out Washington's demands for ending the war. The list includes demands on limits to the weapons Iran may possess and a point on ending support for proxy groups in the region. Iran is also being required to accept the existence of the state of Israel.
- Several Iranian media outlets, meanwhile, released comments from an unnamed senior official in Tehran saying Iran would not accept Trump's "15-point-plan" and for now intends to decide for itself when and on what terms the war should end.
