The government noted that the announced sanctions are aimed at undermining Russia's ability to finance its military operations against Ukraine.

"Canada remains unwavering in its commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and its people, who are forcefully defending their rights in the face of Putin's corrosive and aggressive actions. Until Russia halts its aggression, Canada will continue to intensify pressure through sanctions in coordination with allies and partners," Anand stated.

In total, Canada has imposed sanctions against over 600 vessels for their involvement in transporting goods and products on behalf of Russia.
