Russia launches serial production of ring-wing FPV drone with range of up to 50km

Russia has launched serial production of an FPV drone with a ring-shaped wing that may have a flight range of up to 50 kilometres.

Details: Beskrestnov said the unmanned aircraft features an unusual wing design in the form of a ring, which some specialists had previously considered ineffective.

More details: Beskrestnov added that the drone will be produced by the Russian company Ushkuynik.

Quote: "These are the people who flooded the Russian fronts with fibre-optic drones. It is a powerful company, and large [production] volumes can be expected."

More details: Beskrestnov also said that thanks to this design, the FPV drone's flight range could reach around 50 kilometres.

He also called on FPV specialists to assess the effectiveness of this development.

Russian Telegram channels posting the same images also say the new solutions are designed to increase the operational range of FPV drones and expand the strike zone. In particular, they cite the risk of cable breakage over long distances as one of the limits of fibre-optic systems, while radio-controlled drones can operate at distances of 30-50 km and more.

Background: The Russian fibre-optic drone Knyaz Vandal Novgorodsky (Prince Vandal of Novgorod) developed by the Novgorod-based Ushkuynik centre, has a simplified design intended for cheap serial production. Such systems, known as waiting drones, are actively used by Russia and have become the basis for similar drone developments abroad.
