Russian occupying authorities claim Ukrainian drone sank grain vessel in Sea of Azov – photo
Volodymyr Saldo, the Russian-appointed leader of the temporarily occupied part of Kherson Oblast, has claimed that a Ukrainian drone attacked a Russian cargo ship carrying wheat in the Sea of Azov.
Source: Saldo on Telegram
Details: Saldo said on 5 April that a Volgo-Balt type vessel suffered an incident in the Sea of Azov while transporting a cargo of wheat. The crew reportedly abandoned the ship and managed to reach the shore in Kherson Oblast.
Nine crew members, all Russian citizens, were found on the coast. One person was reported dead, while the whereabouts of two others remain unknown.
Saldo later claimed that the vessel had been attacked by a Ukrainian drone on 3 April. He added that the crew had left the ship and only on 5 April were they able to make contact after reaching the shore near the Russian-occupied village of Strilkove in Kherson Oblast.
There is no independent confirmation of these claims.
Background: Vessels of the Volgo-Balt type were used to transport grain taken from temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories to third countries, using occupied Crimea as a logistics hub.
