Details: Police officers helped the elderly man reach a car service so that he could continue his journey.
According to Kyiv police, the man had been living in Donbas with his wife. When hostilities escalated, they moved to Chernihiv Oblast. However, as a result of a Russian attack, the woman was killed.
"The 70-year-old man packed his whole life into an old VAZ and set off towards a safer place. He took everything most valuable he could carry: belongings, household appliances, 18 chickens and a dog. But the car could not withstand the long journey and eventually broke down," the officers said.
The man was confused and distressed, as the car could no longer move. A passerby noticed him on the streets of the capital and called the police for help.
Patrol officers spoke with the man and supported him. Together, they towed the car to a repair shop so he could fix it.
"Imagine for a moment that the front line is rapidly approaching your home – first in Donetsk Oblast, and then in Chernihiv Oblast … A place where you may have grown up, where your children grew up. A place where every piece of land reminds you of family, warm evenings, and comfort. There are far too many people like this today… The hero of our story doesn't need to imagine it," the police said.
