Ukrainian intelligence identifies Russians responsible for missile strike on Sumy on Palm Sunday 2025

Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) have identified Russian commanders involved in organising the missile strike on Sumy on 13 April 2025 with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles. Thirty-five people were killed and 125 others were injured in the attack.

Quote: "Investigators have found that the attack on the Ukrainian city was initiated by Colonel General Aleksei Kim, Chief of Staff and First Deputy Commander of the Russian Armed Forces' Joint Grouping of Forces in Ukraine, and Kim's deputy, Colonel Vasily Solovyov, head of intelligence.
On Kim's orders, preparations for the missile strike were carried out by officials of the Planning and Coordination Centre for Fire Damage of the Joint Grouping of Forces in Ukraine."
Details: According to DIU, they include Vice Admiral Sergei Pinchuk, Colonel Alexander Kisedobrev, Rear Admiral Aleksei Petrushyn and Colonel Anatoly Gorodetsky.
Direct orders to launch the ballistic missiles from Kursk and Voronezh oblasts were given by Colonel Roman Polushyn, Commander of the 448th Missile Brigade, and Colonel Sergei Ponomaryov, Commander of the 112th Missile Brigade.
Based on the collected evidence, investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine have served all eight war criminals with notices of suspicion in absentia under Article 438.2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, covering war crimes committed by a group acting in prior conspiracy that resulted in deaths.
