Details: On 12 April, the Police concluded their investigation into the drone discovered in the town of Iitti the previous day. Häme Police reported in the afternoon that it had removed the cordon in the Perheniemi area of Iitti.
Finland's National Bureau of Investigation (KRP) will continue the investigation into this case and will provide additional information no earlier than 13 April. The Finnish Border Guard is investigating a suspected violation of territorial integrity.
The Finnish Border Guard and Finnish Coast Guard stated on 11 April that they are investigating whether the drone found in Iitti is connected to Ukrainian drones found in Kouvola, Parikkala and Luumäki in March.
Police received a report about a drone found in a forest on the afternoon of 11 April. The area was cordoned off after authorities determined that the drone may contain explosives.
That same evening, the Armed Forces detonated the drone's warhead in an isolation zone.
Background:
- In the final days of March, three drones were found in various locations in south-eastern Finland, identified as Ukrainian UAVs that had broken away from a drone swarm intended to attack Russian territory. Two fell on 28 March, and another was found on 31 March on the ice of a lake near the Russian border.
- Finland subsequently deployed additional radar systems in the south-east of the country.
- Finland's security service warned that Russia is already using the situation with Ukrainian drones in its propaganda.
