Details: Kyiv Cake has been nominated in the Best Short Film category alongside films from Portugal, Belgium, France, Norway, Finland, Greece, Estonia and other countries.
The film qualified after being screened at ZINEBI, the Bilbao International Festival of Documentary and Short Film, where the jury nominated it for consideration by the European Film Academy.
The 22-minute animation, a co-production between Ukraine and Estonia, tells the story of a family in Ukraine and the difficulties they face.
Mykita Lyskov explained that Kyiv Cake was created when he was living in Ukraine during the full-scale invasion and reflects the feelings and emotions he experienced during that time.
"After the Russian invasion began, I found myself rethinking my entire life experience – something in me had changed irreversibly. This transformation became the foundation of the film's narrative," he said.
Lyskov is a two-time winner of the Golden Dzyga Award and a winner of the Kinokolo Award.
The European Film Awards, presented annually for outstanding achievements in world cinema, are among Europe's most influential film awards. They were established in 1988.
Every year, the European Film Academy presents an award for achievements in European cinema. The ceremony usually takes place at the end of the year.
