Russia could receive around US$10 billion as a result of the easing of US sanctions on Russian oil – money that will be used to continue the war against Ukraine.

Details: Zelenskyy said more than 110 tankers belonging to Russia's shadow fleet are currently at sea carrying over 12 million tonnes of Russian oil. He stressed that these volumes can now be sold without consequences due to the easing of sanctions.
"Every dollar paid for Russian oil is money for the war," Zelenskyy stated, adding that this resource is directly converted into new strikes on Ukraine.
He stressed that Russian tankers must be stopped, not allowed to deliver oil to ports.
Background:
- On 17 April, the US suspended sanctions restrictions on the purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products at sea for 30 days, despite earlier public assurances that the relevant licences would not be renewed.
- Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine's Ambassador to the US, has called on the US administration to reinstate sanctions restricting trade in Russian oil.
