Russian forces carried out large-scale strikes on rail infrastructure in Kharkiv Oblast on the night of 19-20 April.

Details: The attacks damaged rolling stock, depot repair workshops, a station building, elements of the overhead contact network, and power supply systems.

No casualties are reported. Repair works are currently ongoing.

The Ministry noted that over 600 attacks have been recorded and over 1,800 facilities damaged since the start of this year alone.

Background:

  • Russia is stepping up its attacks on Ukraine's railway infrastructure: the Russians have carried out around 5,000 attacks since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, and over 10% of all attacks have occurred in the first months of this year.
  • Over 300 Ukrzaliznytsia locomotives have been damaged or destroyed as a result of Russian attacks in Ukraine.
