Details: The EU will disburse €8.35 billion to Ukraine this year in three tranches under the MFA programme.

According to European Pravda, the first tranche will amount to €3.2 billion and be paid no later than June. The second tranche, worth €3.7 billion, is expected to arrive in the summer or shortly afterwards. The third tranche, totalling €1.45 billion, is expected closer to late autumn.

This is only half of the budget component of the EU's €90 billion loan to Ukraine. The remaining €8.35 billion in financial support will be provided to Kyiv through the Ukraine Facility. Unlike MFA, this programme requires reforms to be implemented in order for the funds to be received.

Under normal circumstances, Ukraine is not required to repay the €90 billion loan. The EU decision stipulates that Kyiv will be obliged to repay the loan only if it receives reparations from Russia. Otherwise, the loan will be repaid by 24 EU member states.
