Kazakhstan has changed routes after Russia blocked oil supplies via Druzhba pipeline

Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry has said it redistributed oil supplies to other routes after exports via the Druzhba pipeline were suspended in May.

Source: Tengri News, a news portal in Kazakhstan, citing Assel Serikpayeva, adviser and official representative of Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry, as reported by Ukrinform, a Ukrainian news agency

Details: Serikpayeva said the schedule for oil transit towards Germany's Schwedt refinery via the Druzhba system had been adjusted in May 2026.

In response, Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry decided to redistribute 260,000 tonnes of export oil volumes to other routes.

Quote: "These volumes will be sent via alternative and technically tested routes: 100,000 tonnes to the port of Ust-Luga and 160,000 tonnes to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system."

More details: Serikpayeva pointed out that the measure had been agreed with shippers. She said that despite the change in logistics, Kazakhstan was able to fulfil all its obligations to the global market.

Background:

  • Russia planned to suspend the transit of Kazakh oil to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline from 1 May.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian repair specialists completed work on the Druzhba oil pipeline, which transports Russian oil to European countries, and that it resumed operations.
  • However, Zelenskyy added that Ukraine cannot guarantee that Russia will not attack the oil pipeline again.
  • Russian forces attacked the oil pipeline in January 2026.
