Moscow's 9 May parade to be held without military equipment

The Victory Day parade on 9 May in Moscow will take place without military hardware due to what officials describe as the "current situation". [Victory Day is a Russian holiday commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, celebrated on 9 May – ed.]

Details: The ministry said the parade will include Russian servicemen as well as aircraft from aerobatic teams and Su-25 jets.

However, there will be no columns of military equipment in the parade. RIA Novosti said this decision had been made "in connection with the current situation".

Cadets from military academies will also not take part due to the "operational situation".

• Russian authorities have been deploying less military equipment during Victory Day parades in cities across the country since 2022.
• Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico complained that Lithuania and Latvia said they would not allow his aircraft to pass through their airspace on his way to the military parade in Moscow on 9 May.
