Mindich discussed sale of FirePoint arms company stake with former defence minister Umierov despite denying ties – UP

Sanctioned businessman Tymur Mindich and Rustem Umierov, former defence minister and now Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, have discussed a potential sale of a stake in the FirePoint arms manufacturer to investors.

Quote from journalist Mykhailo Tkach: "According to numerous investigations, one of the beneficiaries of this company [FirePoint – ed.] may be Tymur Mindich. The company receives the largest contracts from the Ministry of Defence – the same ministry that was headed by Umierov. And now the businessman is complaining to the current defence minister that FirePoint is underfunded. Although Tymur Mindich himself denied any involvement with the company during an interview with Ukrainska Pravda in December 2025."
Details: The conversation suggests that Mindich and Umierov discussed selling a 33% stake for US$600 million, of which US$300 million would supposedly be invested in the company's development, while another US$300 million would be a cash-out for shareholders, potentially including Mindich.
Background: In November 2025, FirePoint co-owner and chief designer Denys Shtilerman confirmed that Mindich had sought to acquire a 50% stake in the company.
