Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and his delegation will travel to Moscow via a longer route through Czechia, Germany, Sweden and Finland.
Source: Slovak media outlet Marker, citing a source in Slovakia's Foreign Ministry, as reported by European Pravda
Details: The longer route became necessary because Estonia officially, as well as the Baltic states and Poland, refused permission for the Slovak aircraft carrying Fico to fly through their airspace.
According to Marker, representatives of Czechia, Germany and the two Scandinavian states – Sweden and Finland – raised no objections to the Slovak aircraft crossing their airspace en route to Moscow.
Background:
- Fico is set to visit Moscow on 9 May and meet Russian ruler Vladimir Putin, though he will not take part in the military parade.
- Fico recently stated that despite disagreements on certain issues, he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are interested in maintaining friendly relations between their countries.
