Details: In his post, the president confirmed that Ukraine, through US mediation, had reached agreements with Russia on a three-day ceasefire and a prisoner exchange.
"We expect the United States to ensure that the Russian side fulfills these agreements," Zelenskyy wrote.
US President Donald Trump said on 8 May that a three-day ceasefire (9, 10 and 11 May) would be declared in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
"I am pleased to announce that there will be a THREE DAY CEASEFIRE (May 9th, 10th, and 11th) in the War between Russia and Ukraine. The Celebration in Russia is for Victory Day but, likewise, in Ukraine, because they were also a big part and factor of World War II," Trump said. He added that the ceasefire would include a halt to all hostilities, as well as an exchange of 1,000 POWs from each country.
The US president also said that negotiations on ending the war were ongoing and that each day was bringing the sides closer to that goal.
Background: At the official level, Ukraine allowed Russia to hold its Victory Day parade as part of the ceasefire arrangements.
