Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has congratulated Péter Magyar, Hungary's new Prime Minister, on taking office.

Details: Zelenskyy congratulated Magyar on the start of his tenure as prime minister of Hungary, calling it symbolic that it took place on Europe Day.

Quote: "Ukraine is ready to deepen cooperation with Hungary and build strong relations between our countries based on good neighborliness and respect for our people.

Together, we can bring greater strength to our nations and make all of Europe stronger. I wish you success and good results in office!"

Background:

  • Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also congratulated Magyar.
  • On 9 May, Hungary's new government, led by Péter Magyar, leader of the formerly opposition party Tisza, took the oath of office and officially began its work.
  • Prior to that, during the inaugural session of parliament, a new Speaker was elected; one of her first decisions was to return the EU flag to the parliament building.
