Quote: "Following negotiations mediated by the US that took place recently, Ukraine provided the Russian side with a 'list of 1,000', compiled according to the length of time Ukrainian servicemen and servicewomen have been held captive since the beginning of the Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The principle of compiling the lists according to time spent in captivity had been repeatedly agreed upon by authorised negotiators from Ukraine and Russia. This is a fair humanitarian approach conducted with the participation and support of the US and demonstrates to the world Ukraine's care for its defenders. It is also one of the steps towards a just peace."

Details: The Coordination Headquarters stressed that "the negotiation process is currently ongoing".

"In order to preserve its effectiveness, we ask everyone to refrain from spreading any unverified information obtained outside official sources," the statement said.

Previously: Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed during a briefing on the evening of 9 May that no proposals regarding a prisoner exchange had yet been received from Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine had handed over a list of 1,000 prisoners of war to Russia for exchange and expects its US partners to ensure that the agreements reached with Moscow are upheld.
