Background:

  • On 8 May, US President Donald Trump announced a three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the ceasefire would take place on 9-11 May and announced that a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange had been planned.
  • On the evening of 12 May, Lubinets said that the Ukrainian negotiating team had long since submitted the lists for the planned prisoner exchange, but Russia is dragging its feet while accusing Ukraine of causing the hold-up.
  • Russian occupying forces abducted Kolykhaiev in June 2022 after conducting a search at his workplace.
  • In September 2023, Suspilne, citing Kolykhaiev's son, reported that the International Committee of the Red Cross had officially confirmed the Kherson mayor's prisoner status.
