Donald Trump, while travelling back to Washington, confirmed that he had discussed Russia's war against Ukraine with Xi Jinping during his trip to China.

Details: Trump said that "it's one [issue] that we'd like to see settled".
Quote from Trump: "Until last night, it was looking good, but they [Ukraine] took a big hit last night."
He called it "a shame" and once again expressed confidence that the peace negotiations would succeed.
Background:
- On 12 May, before departing for China, Trump said that ending the Russo-Ukrainian war was already getting closer.
- On 13 May, Ukraine's military intelligence warned that Russia had launched a new combined air attack against Ukraine that could be prolonged.
- Following that, a Russian combined strike on the night of 13-14 May caused part of a multi-storey residential building in Kyiv to collapse. The attack killed 24 people, including three children.
