Ukrainian developers showcase specialised modifications of Zmii ground robot – photos
Ukrainian Rovertech company – the manufacturer of the Zmii unmanned ground robotic system (GRS) – has developed specialised versions for the military, including robots equipped with a manipulator arm, a tipper-lorry body and a firefighting configuration.

Details: In particular, Rovertech has created a GRS equipped with a manipulator and excavator bucket for fortification works in areas exposed to Russian FPV drones.
The company also developed a Zmii Tipper Lorry for military use at the request of the Khartia Corps, featuring a 0.6 cubic metre cargo bed capable of carrying up to 1.3 tonnes of crushed stone.
According to the developers, this type of machine was needed due to the widespread use of guided aerial bombs by Russian forces. Craters from strikes complicate logistics, and the unmanned tipper lorry allows the delivery of bulk materials to repair damaged road sections in the frontline zone.
In addition to military variants, the developers have also created the Zmii Pozhezhnyi (Firefighting) robot, which is already being used to extinguish fires in various oblasts of Ukraine.
According to the developers, all versions have light fragmentation protection. The company explains that FPV drones often lose connection and detonate 1-2 metres away from the GRS; however, the armour helps minimise damage to the system and batteries.
Chief designer Oleksandr Shalahin noted that thanks to a well-tested chassis, new variants tailored to military requests can be produced within just a few days.
Background:
- Earlier, it was reported that soldiers from the 12th Azov Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine were the first in Ukraine's defence forces to use a ground robotic system for firefighting after a Russian strike, deploying the Ukrainian-made Zmii system to extinguish a fire in a residential area.
- The Zmii Logistic ground robotic system evacuated a seriously wounded soldier from the 11th Assault Battalion of the 59th Stepovi Khyzhaky Brigade on the Pokrovsk front.
