Details: In the note of protest, Estonia strongly condemned Russia's continued disinformation campaign against Estonia and other Baltic countries and demanded that Moscow immediately stop spreading false information, public threats and provocations.
"We have repeatedly stressed that Estonia has not allowed its territory or airspace to be used for attacks on targets in Russia. Claims to the contrary are yet another example of false Russian propaganda, and they know it," said Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
Estonia and the other Baltic states emphasised that the appearance of drones in their airspace is a direct consequence of Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine and that Ukrainians have every right to strike military targets on Russian territory.
Background:
- On 19 May, Latvia's Foreign Ministry summoned a Russian diplomat over disinformation alleging that Latvia was allowing its territory to be used by Ukraine for drone attacks against Russia.
- Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi stressed that Ukraine does not use Latvian territory or airspace in operations against Russia and has no intention of doing so.
- Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, criticised Russia's threats towards the Baltic states, describing Moscow's accusations as "utter nonsense" and a sign of weakness.
