Details: Kuleba noted that the latest large-scale Russian attacks had once again caused serious damage to housing and civilian infrastructure, particularly in Kyiv and hromadas across Kyiv Oblast. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]

He urged people not to delay and to submit information notices and compensation applications through Diia.

The minister stressed that the state provides compensation mechanisms through the eRecovery programme initiative, both for repairing damaged housing and for rebuilding or purchasing new homes in cases of total destruction.

According to Kuleba, the mechanism has already proven effective. Nearly 19,000 families in Kyiv have received compensation to restore damaged housing, while almost 8,500 families have received certificates to purchase new homes to replace destroyed ones.

"I also appeal to local self-government bodies: it is necessary to accelerate the work of commissions, the documentation of damage and support for people during the compensation process as much as possible," Kuleba wrote.

Background:

  • On the night of 23-24 May, Russian forces launched a large-scale combined strike against Ukraine using 90 missiles and 600 drones of various types, including Oreshnik missiles, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
  • Earlier reports also said that 160 families displaced from temporarily occupied territories had purchased new homes under the eRecovery programme, with 87% of the housing bought on the secondary market.
