"However unrealistic and ambitious this goal may sound today, we are making every possible and impossible effort to ensure that it becomes a reality as quickly as possible and that Ukraine can protect its own skies independently," she noted.

Terekh added that each successful test of a new missile is a step towards technological sovereignty.

"Because our true independence is defined, among other things, by whether we are capable of creating critical technologies on our own. Isn't it?" she concluded.

Background:

  • Fire Point presented the concept of the Freyja air defence system in May.
  • The project is based on the FP-7.X interceptor missile. It is made of composite materials and has a stated speed of 1,500-2,000 metres per second. The missile is 7.25 m long, with an outer diameter of 1.15 m and a fuselage diameter of 0.53 m.
  • As previously reported, videos of these missiles being launched were first released in February this year.
